The Last Signal

On Saturday April 29 8pm at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta, Sydney I will be premiering The Last Signal by Melbourne composer Stuart Greenbaum with members of the Australian Youth Orchestra conducted by Kevin Field.

The piece, a kind of concerto (strictly speaking a 'concertante') for piano and large chamber ensemble, requires me to both play written parts and improvise. The concert, called Funky Stuff, is part of the 2006 Aurora Festival, a new music festival in Western Sydney curated by composer Matthew Hindson. Its distinguished international guest is American composer Terry Riley, doyen of the minimalism movement, and in fact Terry Riley will perform at the same concert in which I am appearing his seminal work In C that launched minimalism in music.

In a slightly delayed broadcast the concert will air on ABC Classic FM at 10:30pm that same night (real-time online listening to broadcast available at link).
